Predicting baby's arrival is like predicting Lubbock's weather... no reason to waste your time, right?! Lol! 

For reals though, I know there is a whole list of things that are hard to plan when you don't know when your baby will come. Mark scheduling a newborn session right off that list! I take bookings based on due date and I only take a certain number of newborn session each month. This is to guarantee I will have availability for you whenever your baby makes his or her appearance! You'll reach out to me once the baby has arrived (or once you know your induction date if you go that route) and we'll schedule a session date from there!

I suggest booking as early as your second trimester! I only take a certain number of newborns each month to guarantee availability to everyone, so inquiring early means you have a better chance at securing your spot on my calendar before I'm booked! Plus, at the beginning of the second trimester you're starting to feel better, and you can start planning and dreaming what you want each step to look like, including newborn photos! 

Additionally, if you book with me early enough, we also have enough time to do maternity photos together as well. (Hint: there's a discount for both sessions when you book together ;)). Getting to know each other before the newborn session makes the newborn session much more comfortable and relaxed, and results in better photos. Being relaxed shows in the final images!

First of all - whenever you're ready is ultimately the perfect time! The timing may look different for every family and that is a-okay!

If you want my suggestion, I typically suggest scheduling newborn sessions for 8-14 days after baby's arrival. This time frame is the sweet spot! If you're nursing, it gives your milk time to come in, your baby is still really sleepy, and usually baby acne hasn't begun. 

With that said, if you and/or your family need more time to heal or adjust to this new life, absolutely NO WORRIES!!! Whenever you're ready will truly be the best timing. Being relaxed and comfortable shows in the photos... as does being uptight and stressed. No reason to rush it! We want you to feel and look your best!

Your home, a natural light studio, or even outside (hear me out!) are great options for newborn pictures!

Client's often pick their home for the newborn photo location. Taking pictures in your home allow us to capture your family in your natural environment. Especially if you have additional children, they will be most relaxed in the place they are most familiar with lending us the opportunity to capture some really sweet natural family interactions! 

However, if you're like thanks but no thanks on the in-home photos, a studio might be a great option for you! There are perks to studio's, too! They are clean, clutter & distraction free, and have great furniture amenities available for use! And we can still get wonderfully sweet family interactions in a studio! There a few natural light studios around Lubbock. I'll give you all the details, let you pick, and then I'll book the one you like best! 

And now for me to explain myself on the outdoor newborn session! Something about a family with a newborn baby in the midst of nature is just breath taking-ly beautiful. There are no distractions... just nature to compliment your family's beauty. Unless you get lucky for a warm day in the middle of winter, outdoor newborn sessions are typically only an option for baby's born mid March to mid September. Absolutely! I have taken an artificial lighting course and practiced extensively to make a flash look as close to natural light as possible. Just ask my husband all the crazy things I practiced on him! Haha! 

I will bring a flash with me that I will set up and use throughout the session. It is bounced off walls, windows, etc. and never fires directly into anyone's eyes. I will ask you to send me some pictures of the spaces you want to use ahead of time so I can plan and prepare ahead of time!

Typically 28-32 weeks pregnant is considered the sweet spot for maternity photos! Your bump is poppin but typically you're not getting to the point of great discomfort. We want you to feel your best in the photos. That will shine through in the photos and give you the sweet expecting Mama glow! 

If you have a high risk pregnancy of any kind, are pregnant with twins, etc. we will want to get them done sooner rather than later, and 32 weeks is later than I would recommend. If you have a unique situation, please let me know and we will make a plan that works best for the safety you and your family!
